Did you remember the clock change? My alarm went off far too early… even for me
It’s been a full-on week getting back from IFS and Blackpool, then straight into a brilliant Level 3 Reformer course on Thursday.
Yesterday I hosted a new, small and intimate day for fitpros, sharing a brand new red light + infrared + Reformer class, along with networking. It was complete contrast from teaching hundreds in one room to a lovely small group, and it worked so well.
It was such a successful day that I’ve already planned another on 8th May.
It’s all in this week’s vlog, including some funny behind-the-scenes moments with Jayne. Click here to watch the vlog.
Today I’ve also included a handout /article on nervous system regulation and Fitness Pilates. Please feel free to use it in your own newsletters.
What is nervous system regulation?
Nervous system regulation is your body’s ability to move between stress and calm smoothly
It’s how well you can:
- Handle stress
- Recover after stress
- Feel relaxed, focused and in control
When it’s working well, your body can switch on when needed and switch off when needed
What is dysregulation?
Dysregulation is when your body gets stuck in stress mode or can’t fully relax
Signs your nervous system may be dysregulated
- You feel wired but tired
- You struggle to switch off or relax
- Poor sleep or waking in the night
- Constant muscle tension or stiffness
- Feeling anxious, overwhelmed or irritable
- Low energy but still feel on edge
- You don’t recover well from workouts
Many people are living in this state without realising
Why this matters (especially midlife)
- Hormonal changes increase stress sensitivity
- Recovery takes longer
- High stress impacts fat loss, sleep and energy
You can’t get results if your body is constantly stressed
How Fitness Pilates helps regulate the nervous system
1. Controlled breathing
- Encourages slow, deep breathing
- Activates the calming (parasympathetic) system
2. Slow, mindful movement
- Reduces tension
- Helps the body feel safe and in control
3. Core and postural work
- Improves stability
- Gives a sense of physical support and strength
4. Mobility and stretching
- Releases tight muscles
- Reduces stored tension in the body
5. Focus and mind-body connection
- Brings clients out of busy brain mode
- Helps them feel present
6. Relaxation at the end
- Signals to the body it’s safe to switch off
- Supports better sleep and recovery
“When your nervous system is balanced, everything improves — energy, sleep, strength and results”
